Monster 1200 Sports Bike Review

Image
I will raise my hand. I admit it: When the 2017  Monster 1200  was announced I thought it was a simple facelift. I thought  Ducati  drizzled some new styling over a quickshifter and a reshaped fuel tank and then begged us to be excited about it. But I wasn’t paying attention. This new machine has significant updates, top to bottom. Easily my favorite part is that Ducati didn’t follow the trend of bigger and more. Instead, the new Monster is more technologically advanced but also narrower and shorter. First of all, I need to specify (lest all stat nerds protest) that the 2017 Monster 1200 does have a taller standard seat height—31.3 inches, up from 30.9 inches, due to a longer shock. More to the point, Ducati made the tail section and tank slimmer by around 20mm (0.75 inches). The tank’s capacity is also down about a quarter of a gallon for 4.4 gallons total. An all-new, shorter swingarm accounts for the 58.5-inch wheelbase, a full inch less than the previous mod...

Ducati 1299 Price Review& Specs

Image
Biggest news here is that  Ducati  officially cracked the 200-hp mark. But before we get to this most extreme Superquadro engine ever, let’s start from the beginning. When Ducati CEO Claudio Domenicali was asked about the internal geometry of the  ducati 1299 price  engine—with specific reference to the rod length of 110.1mm in relation to its 60.8mm stroke—he affirmed that he wanted the Panigale to be as compact and well balanced as possible.  When I heard a larger-displacement Panigale was in the works, with the extra cubes coming from increased stroke (the bore already was a record-setting 112mm), I wondered if Domenicali was ready to compromise with even shorter rods to compensate for the extra stroke. The new ducati 1299 features  sets fresh standards in the superbike fraternity, with a claimed 205 hp at 10,500 rpm and a terrific 106.7 pound-feet of torque at 8,750 rpm. Simply put, there is nothing like that on two wheels, with th...

Ducati Diavel Bike in Pakistan

Image
The story goes that the name for the Ducati Diavel was born early in its development process, when the prototype was assembled and wheeled out in front of a group of Ducati technicians and engineers for the first time.  One person saw the bike’s silhouette and exclaimed in Bolognese dialect: “Ignurant comm’ al diavel!” (Meaning: “Evil, like the Devil”). The name stuck and the concept of building a muscular silhouette over a pure-bred competition motor became a production reality when the Diavel was first unveiled in 2010. Less than five years later, and in its second generation version, the muscular and aggressive looking motorcycle is one of the largest selling Ducatis in India today. So, what should we call the Diavel? Is it a naked street, is it a cruiser or is it something else? Ducati’s official tagline for the   diavel sports  is “Don’t call me a cruiser”, so the marketing guys at Ducati certainly don’t want to label the Diavel as a cruiser. What the Diavel s...

Monster 821 2018 Bikes Review Specs

Image
Ducati India is launching the 2018 version of their popular streetfighter offering into the Indian market today – the Ducati Monster 821. With this model Ducati is doing first of its kind launch on its twitter handle only.  The new model by monster 821 comes as a celebration of the Monster range of motorcycles completing 25 years. In terms of visual changes, the most evident one is the new headlamp cluster at the front which bears resemblance to latest Monster 1200. The fuel tank has been chiselled to give a more muscular look and complimenting that approach is the tail section which has been made to look sharper than before.  There are a few changes on the mechanical front as well. The bike continues to be powered by the same  monster 821 sports bike  cc, Testastretta L-twin engine but now it has been worked upon to be BS-IV emission norm compliant.  In the pakistani market, the bike will compete against the likes of the Triumph Street Triple S,...

Ducati 1199 Sports Bike Review

Image
We wondered how the 899 stacked up against the more powerful 1199. Looking at our measured performance data, the 1199 produces 174 hp and 88 pound-feet of torque compared to the 899’s 131 hp and 65 pound-feet. Translated to straight-line speed, the bigger bike sprints through the quarter-mile in 9.91 seconds at 145.50 mph, hits 60 in 2.8 seconds, and has a measured top speed of 182 mph. By comparison, the adolescent Panigale does the quarter in 10.38 at 133.85 mph, hits 60 in 2.7 seconds, and has a top speed of 161. Not many people buy a Panigale to go drag racing, right? So we had two-time AMA SuperSport championship runner-up Hayden Gillim run the two back to back on the tight and twisty Streets of Willow Springs. With our VBOX recording the data, the lighter, agiler 899 trounced the   ducati 1199  by 1.4 seconds (1:18.94 versus 1:20.36), even though its max trap speed of 127.5 mph was significantly slower than the 1199’s 133.4. What gives? 1199 has so much power that...

Ducati 959 Sports Bike Review

Image
On the heels of Sunday’s unveiling of the 2018 Panigale V4 in Milan, Ducati has retired the Panigale 1199/1299. Fear not, though, the V-twin remains a strategic part of the Italian manufacturer’s superb sporting tradition in the form of the 959 Panigale. For the 959—the first Panigale to meet Euro 4 emissions—to evolve into its new spearhead role, Ducati upgraded the bike to Corse spec with top-quality components from Akrapovic, Brembo, Öhlins, and Pirelli. Öhlins is used across the board: a   ducati 959 mm inverted fork, a TTX36 shock, and an adjustable steering damper. Front brakes are from the standard model, with 320mm Brembo discs and four-piston M4.32 calipers. Akrapovic produces the Ti exhaust, which trims a claimed 5.5 pounds from the overall weight of the bike, and a lithium-ion battery replaces the lead-acid unit. Pirelli Diablo Rosso Corsa tires are standard in 120/70-17 front and 180/60-17 rear sizes. These upgrades are relevant in terms o...
